Leading edge solution profiled at NAB's Broadcast Engineering Conference in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nevada, April 19, 2004 - Precidia Technologies, the leader in IP enabling products and solutions, announced today the deployment of its Ether232 product for CHUM Television stations the NewPL and the NewWI, facilitating remote access to serial RS232 broadcast equipment in another city. The solution will be profiled by Precidia president Deepak Wanner in an address to the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) 2004 Broadcast Engineering Conference on Wednesday, April 21st in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This leading edge implementation, which was completed on time and under budget, partners Precidia's Ether232 Remote Access devices with broadcasting equipment such as cameras, switchers, audio mixers, teleprompters and VTRs. By connecting this serial-based equipment to the Ether232, it becomes accessible from the station's WAN, allowing control room staff to access and manage equipment in another city.

The CHUM engineers placed a Precidia Ether232 device at each end, using a TI connection via their microwave system between the two sites to move data back and forth. "The system could not show any latency problems and the allowed budget was very tight. The outcome was a system offering full control, while maintaining the same reliability that we could expect if the equipment was sitting in the next room", said Jim Kippen, Manager of Engineering and Operations for the NewPL. "We have been using the system for almost ten months now and have not had any hardware/software problems. We are currently working on other projects that will leverage this technology to increase flexibility and further expand our broadcasting options."

Precidia President Deepak Wanner lauds the NewPL for its innovative approach to managing broadcasting equipment. "The NewPL is a real-life example of the key benefits offered by our Remote Access products. Mission critical and time-sensitive news data can be transmitted easily from any network connected location, simplifying broadcasts. Using our device, broadcasting outlets can share costly equipment throughout a geographic area using their existing Ethernet WAN, all without upgrading or replacing equipment. The NewPL leads the industry in technological broadcasting solutions, and we are pleased to work with them."

Precidia's complete product line also features devices that can connect to IP networks using a PPP or PPP wireless connection, offering customers a broad range of solutions for almost any network infrastructure.

Precidia President Deepak Wanner will profile this and other broadcasting solutions in a speech on Wednesday, April 21st at 4:00pm at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) 2004 Broadcast Engineering Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
