Datapac Replacement Solution Helps City of Richmond

IP adapter moves City's online payments off of Datapac in advance of December 2009 deadline.

Ottawa, Canada, October 22, 2009 - Precidia Technologies Inc., a global leader in the design and manufacture of Internet Protocol (IP) payment and networking products, announced today that it has provided a Datapac replacement solution to the City of Richmond, British Columbia. Datapac is an x.25 based telecommunications service that will be eliminated in December 2009, following a phase-out path that spanned several years. Precidia's offering is a simple, easily implemented solution which migrates credit and debit card transaction processing from the existing Datapac service onto the broadband IP network most organizations already have in place. The City of Richmond currently accepts payments online for recreation services, and has deployed the Precidia solution, sending transactions to transaction processor Chase Paymentech.

Precidia's Datapac replacement solution features a sophisticated IP adapter that can integrate with existing websites or payment terminals via a dial or serial port. The device converts the legacy x.25 transaction data to be carried over a private or public IP network. For government organizations such as the City of Richmond, this solution presents a cost effective solution, leveraging an existing broadband IP network, and requiring no new equipment or systems. From an operational perspective, IP-based transaction processing is superior, offering dramatically faster transactions, lower transaction processing costs, and enhanced manageability.

"Precidia gave us a fast, easily implemented solution to Datapac replacement that fit within our budget", said Ed Kurta, Senior Network Analyst for the City of Richmond. "Not only does the solution work well, but we were able to reduce our monthly costs, with the elimination of Datapac service. Our clients enjoy the convenience of online payments for their recreation activities, so it was important to us to find a solution that we could implement in advance of the Datapac end-of-life deadline".

Precidia President Deepak Wanner notes that all of Canada's municipalities face the same requirement to replace their Datapac service: "Any organization in Canada that currently accepts credit or debit payments needs to find a replacement solution in 2009", said Mr. Wanner. "In addition to immediately reducing costs with the elimination of Datapac service, we've made it easier for these businesses with same day shipping and an easily deployed solution."
