Ottawa, Canada, February 18, 2009 - Precidia Technologies Inc., a global leader in the design and manufacture of Internet Protocol (IP) payment and networking products, announced today new reduced pricing for its IP migration packages for Canadian retailers faced with the phase-out of Datapac 3201 service. This x.25 based telecommunications service is used for credit, debit and ATM transactions in Canada, but has been on a phase-out path that will culminate in a December 2009 obsolescence. Compelled by this deadline to migrate onto an IP-based solution, retailers can also position themselves for mandatory compliance with the EMV (chip card) standard for transaction processing, which cannot be met using Datapac 3201 service.
Precidia offers Canadian retailers a sophisticated dial/serial to IP adapter that connects to existing POS terminals or ATMs via a dial or serial port, converting the legacy transaction data to be carried over a private or public IP network This popular solution allows retailers to avoid the cost of replacing POS systems and equipment, while they enjoy the benefits of IP-based transaction processing. Processing transactions over a public or private IP network offers a significant cost reduction for Canadian retailers, as the cost of Datapac has increased annually and is now prohibitive for most retailers. Retailers can now use low cost broadband IP, which in many cases is already in place. From an operational perspective, IP-based transaction processing is superior, offering dramatically faster transactions and enhanced manageability.
Precidia President Deepak Wanner says that this strategy is popular with retailers, since it can be implemented quickly and cost effectively: "Replacing legacy POS systems with newer EMV and IP capable systems can cost tens of thousands of dollars and many months to implement", said Mr. Wanner. "The Precidia solution's cost has been reduced by as much as 30%, and it can be deployed quickly".
In an article published in Frontier Times magazine, Mr. Wanner also reminds retailers that the 2010 mandatory compliance deadline for secure EMV (chip card) technology is another reason to formulate a Datapac to IP migration strategy in 2009.
