Ottawa, Canada, October 21st, 2002 - Precidia Technologies, the leader in IP access devices, announced today the release of Ether232 Version 4.0, which will provide customers with additional security, enhanced network management capabilities and more supported protocols for connecting stand-alone serial devices to a network.

Some of the new security features of the Ether232 version 4.0 include IPSec capability for secure communications between two networks as well as a console password on the device to prevent unauthorized access to the unit. Other new Ether232 enhancements include Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), which allows IP addresses to be "leased out" from a central point on the network, without requiring specific knowledge of the network address. Precidia has also added the ability to selectively enable or disable the SNMP agent on the unit. And, an additional Gateway entry to the Ether232 has been created to allow for a second gateway, to reach a specified remote network.

The Ether232 access device is part of Precidia's Remote Access Device line that connects stand-alone serial equipment to an IP network via Ethernet, dial Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) or wireless.
