Ottawa, Canada, January 9th, 2002 - Precidia Technologies, the leader in IP enabling technology solutions, announced today that its line of remote access devices has been released with new features designed to improve device management and ease of use.

The Ether232, Ether422 and Ether485 access devices connect stand-alone serial equipment in industries from building automation to energy management to LANs or WANs via Ethernet. By connecting their RS232, RS422 or RS485 based equipment to an existing LAN/WAN, users can remotely manage each device from any location on the network, in real time. Users can reduce their maintenance and help desk costs by eliminating on site visits, and VARs can augment their solution portfolio by offering a low cost solution, which allows their customers to extend the life of their existing equipment.

This enhanced product release is a response to feedback generated by customers in a wide cross section of industry sectors, representing the needs of the end user. The new features include an SNMP agent for better network management, a new user downloadable web page for customized information storage, and a remote com port control feature, which allows the user to remotely manage the device's serial port as if locally connected to a PC.

Frame Textiles, of South Africa, implemented Precidia's Ether232 to track an average of 30,000 bales of fabric in their warehouse. With the solution implemented, the company's transponders can now be remotely accessed through the company's WAN.
