Precidia Technologies forms Alliance with Sensatronics LLC Alliance will IP enable popular NimbusTM Meteorological equipment

Ottawa, Ontario, June 19, 2003 - Precidia Technologies, the leader in IP enabling technologies, today announced a strategic alliance with Sensatronics LLC, a manufacturer of world leading quality weather instruments. The alliance, which teams Precidia's IP enabling products with Sensatronics NimbusTM line of weather instruments, establishes a framework for joint R&D activities to help Sensatronics' network of distributors and end users bring their weather equipment onto IP networks.

The solution connects Nimbus modular weather instruments, including equipment measuring temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure, precipitation, solar radiation, wind speed and wind direction, to IP networks. IP connectivity offers the user vast new functionality, enhancing the collection of mission critical weather data with real-time remote access to equipment from any location on the network. Connecting via the Nimbus module's RS232 interface, Precidia's Ether232Plus, IP232 or Cell232Plus products bring the serial based module onto an IP network via Ethernet, dial-up Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) or Wireless PPP for real-time access to weather data. While enhancing mission critical forecasting, the IP232 and Cell232Plus products can also reduce long distance communications costs and simplify host infrastructure by eliminating the need to maintain banks of modems to transmit data.

"Our customers are already using Precidia's Remote Access Products to access Nimbus units from a network", said Keith Wright, president of Sensatronics LLC. "Precidia is the only company to offer this range of connectivity solutions, from Ethernet to Wireless IP networks. Our customers can now add significant new functionality to their Nimbus products, and in many cases, can eliminate banks of modems for an overall reduction in costs. This solution is a winner for Sensatronics customers, many of whom are public meteorological institutions with finite budgetary resources", said Mr. Wright.

"Precidia is known for providing solutions in mission critical environments like weather forecasting", said Deepak Wanner, president of Precidia Technologies. "This alliance with Sensatronics reflects the drive on the part of meteorological organizations to improve forecasting, in many cases as mandated by governing bodies. Whether the user chooses to leverage an Ethernet, PPP or Wireless PPP network, Precidia is helping to meet this requirement with products that can offer the additional advantage of cost savings."

The solution is already deployed in U.S. Weather facilities. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the U.S. National Weather Service, uses the IP232 modem device with its Sensatronics weather sensors to improve remote site data collection and reduce costs. The implementation of this solution at several Eastern U.S. sites has helped NOAA meet a Senate Directive to improve the timeliness and accuracy of temperature forecasts.
