iPocketUSB

Wireless Connectivity for ATMs and other M2M Communications

By coupling a USB wireless stick with the iPocketUSB, and you create a wireless router. We have worked with Verizon, Bell and Telus to offer attractive rate plans for this solution that include the USB stick for under $20/month. Through our central management server, you can set up on demand VPN tunnels for two-way communications. This is an ideal solution for ATM machines or cash registers set up in mobile workspaces like trade shows or fairs.

With the iPocketUSB, select either a Huawei modem or a Novatel Modem from your carrier. You will need a 50Meg/month rate plan and if you want to do VPN tunnels, make sure you get an adequate number of SMS messages added to the plan.

The key is to select the lowest cost packet data plan from the carrier of your choice. Make sure it is a dynamically assigned internet routable modem, available from most carriers  for about $15/month, including the wireless modem if you sign up to a 2 year plan. Make sure the modem is one of the approved modem types that Precidia has written drivers for. Plug it into iPocketUSB and you are ready to go.

If you want bidirectional management, simply sign up to Precidia’s two-way management server. By clicking on a button through an encrypted SMS message, the iPocketUSB will activate a VPN tunnel to you, allowing you to remotely manage the site. This feature alone costs $15/month from most carriers. Precidia’s management server offers this to you for just $3/month.

Some applications include:  Wireless ATM, Wireless M2M and USB over IP.   The possibilites are wide open.  iPocketUSB is ideal for legacy devices that don’t support native wireless connectivity, devices that have been depended on a wired ethernet cable. iPocketUSB has been design open up a great many possible applications.  Contact Precidia today to find more about iPocketUSB.

  • The iPocketUSB, when coupled with a wireless modem stick, becomes a wireless modem. The simplicity of the design makes the solution ideal as a low cost wireless access point.
The exciting new advantage of this solution is that as technology advances so can you. Simply exchange the GPRS or CDMA wireless modem for an HSPA, EVDO or LTE modem. Double the bandwidth or lower the cost simply by swapping out the modem stick.
  • iPocket USB
The iPocketUSB is roughly the size of a credit card. It has 2 connectors: the USB interface, which accepts a wireless stick, and an Ethernet RJ45 port. When powered up, the device’s Status lights will go to a slow steady flash. Your wireless router is ready to go.
    Status lights indicate:
SOLID – means no modem connection
FAST FLASH – modem connected, but signal strength too low
SLOW FLASH – modem connected, and signal strength is fine
Increase signal strength by relocating the modem, or adding an external antenna to the modem
  • NetVu Centralized Management Console
  • Case Study – Wireless ATM
ATM located in convenience store away from network or telephone drop.
iPocket USB inside the ATM, acting like a wireless modem. The USB stick will have poor reception inside the metal frame of the ATM machine, so an external antenna is added and pulled through the back of the ATM.
Antenna connected on the back of the display so that it is barely visible. With VPN tunnels activated on demand, ATM operator uses a program called Triton connect to remotely access ATM anytime to collect journals or fix errors.
  • Other devices that can be managed using the iPocketUSB wireless modem and NetVu:
Ethernet based power switches can be controlled remotely by NetVu. Add an SMS command to turn power on/off remotely.
Using a second iPocketUSB, plug in a GPS antenna and collect positioning information. This can be then be displayed on NetVu to indicate where the end point is.
Place a remote surveillance camera and use an SMS message to activate it on demand.
