Challenge
|
| Access to real-time security data is critical to the safe, efficient operation of any facility, allowing personnel to prevent and respond efficiently to problems. Monitoring magnetic badge readers, sensors, CCTV equipment or door controllers from a central security office improves efficiencies dramatically. However, often the equipment or applications providing this data is serial-based, and cannot currently be monitored over the organization's IP LAN/WAN. In addition, cabling limitations can make central monitoring difficult, and the requirement for dedicated PCs can be costly. |
Solution
|
| Precidia's suite of legacy networking routers and adapters can overcome networking challenges for legacy security systems. These products can connect RS232, RS422 and RS485-based equipment to an enterprise LAN/WAN without regard to distance. By networking security equipment like CCTV cameras and badge readers, stand-alone systems can be monitored, controlled and accessed in real-time from a central location, optimizing resources and improving response time. In addition, some Precidia products deliver data security features such as SSL encryption and firewalling, protecting sensitive data on the network. Products include: |
SLynx220 |
| This multi-port serial networking router offers 2 available serial ports, and 2 incoming dial ports. Its features make it ideal for mission critical security/access control applications, with SSL encryption to secure data on private or public networks, as well as routing to multiple IP addresses. For example, the S-Lynx220 can route data from a surveillance camera to a central PC for storage, while simultaneously routing to a security company or law enforcement agency. The S-Lynx220 analyzes the protocol to route data from serial security devices, to the appropriate IP address. The SLynx220 also features automatic dial back-up for enhanced reliability. The SLynx220 is actively managed by NetVu, Precidia's Management Server. |
| iPocket232 |
| This compact, plug and play adapter connects RS232 equipment to IP networks via Ethernet. The low cost iPocket232 features one RS232 interface, and is ideal when simple serial networking is required. For example, serial-based access control devices can be connected to an IP network, allowing remote access to the data from any location on the network. The iPocket232 is DIN Rail mountable, and is actively managed by NetVu. |
| NetVu |
| NetVu is a powerful management server driving enhanced remote management and monitoring for access control/security operations. NetVu delivers valuable tools for deployment, monitoring, management and troubleshooting. The configuration for each Precidia device can be pre-configured on NetVu (available from a standard web browser on any PC), so that installation is plug and play. Once deployed, the Precidia device sends periodic 'heartbeats' to NetVu, which can then send an alarm via SMS or email if any interruptions occur. NetVu also allows network administrators to access valuable data on the device's activity, making it ideal for monitoring security status in real-time during high-demand periods. |
| Facilities Managers and Security VARs choose Precidia's solutions because they offer network connectivity to almost any environment, via Ethernet, PPP Dial or PPP Wireless, while protecting sensitive data on the network and ensuring reliability for mission critical operations. Whether you need to manage systems in a single building or spread across a campus, Precidia's routers and adapters can connect everything from field perimeter intrusion detection sensors to outdoor CCTV cameras, easily and cost effectively. |

| Success Story |
| Traf-Sys offers a complete turnkey people counting system, which helps retailers collect valuable data on pedestrian traffic. Traf-Sys turned to Precidia’s iPocket232 to transmit traffic data from RS232-based MIU controllers to a server with Traf-Sys people counting data processing software. Customers receive accurate people counting data in real-time, easily accessible from a PC. Traf-Sys President Chris Wadsworth says “Our customers look to us for accurate, timely data on entry/exit, as well as diagnostics. With the iPocket232, we can provide this data easily”. Deployed in hundreds of retail and convention center locations, the iPocket232 has enhanced the usability of critical data for business owners. |
