Linking the Mitel SX 200 ICP to the PMS and SMDR
The Challenge
Tharaldson Communications, Inc. (TCI) offers telecommunications solutions and services to the hospitality industry throughout the United States that help hospitality operators deliver the highest level of quality and customer service possible. While IP PBXs are often the first hospitality system to be upgraded, critical systems such as Property Management Systems (PMS) are not always available with IP capability and existing ones are incompatible with IP PBXs. The challenge for Tharaldson is to integrate the new PBX with various existing systems to enable information sharing.

Precidia's Solution
In consultation with Mitel, Tharaldson chose the Precidia iPocket232 to deploy with the Mitel SX 200 ICP. It proves to be a simple, cost-effective method to connect their customers' voice mail, PMS and SMDR systems to the PBX. Through networking, hotel operators can activate room phones on check-in, provide enhanced voice mail options and improve call accounting. The iPocket232 seamlessly enables data sharing without changing existing processes so that most operators aren't even aware that it's part of the PBX solution.

"The iPocket232 is the perfect choice for integrating the Mitel SX 200 ICP with serial-based hospitality systems. This inexpensive addition to our telecommunications portfolio does a great job and we had excellent support from Precidia to achieve the ideal configuration. We haven't had a single issue with any installation," said Justin Hannesson, Director of Operations for Tharaldson. "It really did give us the piece of the puzzle that was necessary to deliver an end-to-end hospitality PBX solution."

Benefits
Tharaldson and their customers realize several key benefits by implementing Precidia's iPocket232:
- Simple IP access
The iPocket232 is easy to install and configures within 30 seconds. The compact size means it can be placed almost anywhere for more flexible installations. By connecting serial-based equipment to a LAN/WAN, it overcomes the distance limitations of RS232 cabling requirements and facilitates a simplified, less-costly cabling structure.
- Improved Operating Efficiency
The solution enables the hotel operators to take advantage of the additional functionality of IP PBXs without any integration concerns. The iPocket232 provides a practical bridge between legacy serial equipment and the advanced IP technology available in the SX 200 ICP that streamlines the flow of information and maximizes data usage.
- Seamless integration with existing environment
The iPocket232 is transparent to existing equipment, enabling hotel staff to leverage PBX data for use in other applications without requiring additional training.
Conclusion
Like all of Precidia's IP access devices, the iPocket232 provides IP networking for legacy equipment. Telecommunications system providers and integrators trust the iPocket232 to enhance their solutions and services portfolio, whether they deploy Mitel, NEC, Avaya or other major PBX brands.
Hotel operators and other PBX users gain flexibility in their IP migration strategy by using the iPocket232 to connect serial-based equipment to IP networks. In doing so, they are able to delay expensive upgrades while existing systems continue to meet performance requirements and/or until new technology becomes both available and affordable.
