Emergency 911 Systems

Share 911 Data Between Telephone Equipment and Computer Aided Dispatch Systems

Dots Challenge

There are few tools as critical as the 911 Emergency systems used by municipalities and police departments throughout North America. Today's 911 set-up is highly sophisticated, with Computer Aided Dispatch systems providing real-time mapping, suspect information, caution warnings for property or individuals. All of this data is critical to the emergency personnel deployed to each call.

Many municipalities in North America rely on legacy 911 telephone systems that cannot interface with newer ethernet-capable Computer Aided Dispatch systems. This creates a communication problem: dispatchers using the Computer Aided Dispatch systems do not have automatic access to the data from the 911 telephone system. Often other emergency call centers require this information as well, such as other municipalities.

Dots Solution

Municipalities and police departments have turned to Precidia's proven serial networking adapters and legacy conversion routers, including the popular iPocket232™. This serial networking adapter connects legacy 911 telephone systems via the serial port, converting the data to ethernet for access by the Computer Aided Dispatch system. Also used extensively in Emergency 911 applications is the S-Lynx220 legacy conversion router, which offers 2 dial and 2 serial ports, with the ability to route data to multiple IP addresses simultaneously. Ideal for both private and public networks, the S-Lynx220 features SSL encryption and firewalling, as well as automatic dial back-up for enhanced reliability in a mission critical environment.

Working together with Precidia's serial networking adapters and legacy conversion routers is NetVu™, Precidia's management server. The management server facilitates enhanced management, monitoring and device deployment. From remotely assigning, configuring and updating units, to identifying problem areas on the network, NetVu is always working to make the transition to IP an easy one.

Customer Testimonial
"The Precidia adapter is the ideal solution for integrating serial-based equipment. This inexpensive addition to our emergency equipment was plug and play. We haven't missed a beat since installation. It really did give us the piece of the puzzle that was necessary to bring vital data from serial equipment to the dispatcher using CAD."
