Challenge
|
| Weigh scales are used in almost every industry - from trucking scales to scales used to measure the tiniest of electronic components. Many of today's scales have a network interface card that allows users to take advantage of the benefits of fully networked equipment: easy accessibility to data from any location on the network, the ability to communicate with other IP-based software programs. However, for those scales that do not offer a network interface card, there is currently no way to access the scale from the corporate LAN/WAN. |
Solution
|
| Precidia's inexpensive serial connectivity products can provide a 'quick fix' to this problem. The iPocket232, which features one serial RS232 port, and an ethernet port, connects via the serial port to a serial-based weigh scale, converting the data to IP. Data from this scale is then accessible from any PC on the corporate network, and the weigh scale can communicate with other software programs on the network. |

Precidia’s serial networking adapters can be used in other applications related to weigh scales. For example, the EtherCell offers secure access to a network-enabled weigh scale from outside the network, ideal for those supporting these devices.
Precidia offers adapters to suit every need:
- iPocket232 connects one RS232-based weigh scale to an IP network via ethernet
- Ether232Duo connects 2 RS232-based weigh scales to an IP network, with 10/100 base-T ethernet
- Ether232Plus connects RS232, RS422 or RS485 weigh scales to an IP network
- EtherCell secure remote access adapter delivers dial access to a network-enabled weigh scale from outside the network.
