Global Mail Tracking
Challenge
| While North America's mail delivery system leads the world in reliability, innovation and cost effectiveness, many of the destination countries for North American mail lack this advanced capability. Consider countries like Panama and Brazil, where a 16% delivery rate is considered successful. The challenge for North American postal organizations is to maintain their stellar service reputations when delivering within these geographic territories. |
| Key to ensuring a consistent level of service across the globe is implementing a tracking mechanism for the transmission of mail between various geographic points. Any such solution must be easy to use, to maintain operational efficiency and service levels, and be cost effective. |
Solution
| Precidia offers two products, the IP232 or Cell232Plus , to bring RFID data onto IP networks, offering real-time delivery confirmation via a standard web browser. The RFID data, which contains unique identifiers for each piece or bundle of mail, is scanned using a mobile or handheld scanner at each mail sorting/delivery location on any given route. As this data is scanned, it is transmitted to the Precidia device, where it is converted from RS232 to PPP. Depending on which product is used, the device can then set up a PPP connection with a local ISP or an 'always on' wireless IP network, using a wireless carrier. |
